In thermal power generation, the feedwater heater transfers heat from extraction steam to preheat feedwater, improving overall plant efficiency. When the feedwater heater malfunctions, a bypass system is used to isolate the heater and allow maintenance without disrupting the feedwater flow to the boiler. The VHB and VHBS bypass valves form the core of this system, consisting of two on/off valves placed upstream and downstream from the feedwater heater with separate conduits for routing the flow.
